Some say NC lottery could hurt SC scholarship funding

July 10, 2006 - South Carolina lottery officials expect their revenue will drop $200 million this year because of the lottery recently rolled out in North Carolina.
And officials are worried that state scholarships could feel the pinch.
Players spent more than one billion dollars on the South Carolina Education Lottery in the last fiscal year.
That year included two Powerball jackpots exceeding $300 million, which increased purchases by infrequent players.
A spokesman for Governor Mark Sanford's office says the lottery could return more money to education by reducing the retailers' percentage from six percent to 534233427520r by cutting top lottery officials' salaries.
